TEAM APO SUCCEEDS AT PONSETI RACES
Tracy, Cole and Blake Cheney (family of Rod Cheney) and APO practitioner Andy Besser, CPO, all participated in the 2011 Ponseti Races held earlier this month at the UI Sports Medicine Center in Iowa City.
Team APO finished at the top of each individual’s classification: Cole finished second in his age group; Tracy finished third in hers; Blake and Andy both finished FIRST in their age groups. Racing along with them was Herky the Hawkeye and Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.
APO was a Gold Sponsor of the 5K and 10K-race event named for Dr. Ignacio Ponseti, a pioneer in the correction of clubfoot in a non-surgical treatment called the Ponseti Method. Proceeds from the Ponseti Races will benefit the treatment and care of children and clubfoot research. For more information, visit www.uiortho.com/races.
Congratulations to Nick Ackerman, CP, who was inducted into the Simpson College Athletic Hall of Fame during the school's 2011 Homecoming weekend. Nick is our Director of Prosthetics and a former NCAA Division III Wrestling Champion.
APO Staff Members Rod Cheney, CPO, FAAOP, Brent Cheney, CO, Tom Ham, CO, Andy Besser, CPO, and Jeff Palmer, CPO, attended the 2011 AOPA National Assembly, Sept. 19 - 22 in Las Vegas. The APO team had the opportunity to participate in business and clinical educational programs and visit exhibitors showcasing the latest technology in O&P.

Nick Ackerman Heard 'On the Mat'
Nick Ackerman, CP, NCAA wrestling champion and APO Director of Prosthetics, was a guest on the radio show 'On the Mat' recently.
The show is a presentation of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum and can be heard live on the Internet at www.kcnzam.com or locally in Northeast Iowa each Wednesday from 5:00 - 6:00 PM Central time on AM 1650.
Ackerman won the 174-pound wrestling championship at the 2001 NCAA Division III tournament. He also was the co-winner of the Dan Hodge Trophy that year, along with Cael Sanderson. Ackerman was a two-time All-American for Simpson College (IA).

Nick Ackerman Appears on NBC's Today Show
Nick Ackerman, APO's Director of Prosthetics and former NCAA Division III Wrestling Champion, appeared on NBC's "Today" Show on May 19. The national news program aired a follow-up story to its 2001 piece about Nick and his successes on the wrestling mat as a student at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Since that original show, which highlighted Nick's National Wrestling Championship and included him being named the tournament's "Outstanding Wrestler," Nick has completed his education, and become a husband, a father, and a certified prosthetist, helping APO patients overcome their mobility challenges the same way he has.
